Classic Alfredo Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1 1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional for extra flavor)
Instructions:
Melt Butter: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned.
Add Cream: Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Let it cook for 3-5 minutes to slightly thicken.
Add Parmesan: Lower the heat to medium-low and slowly whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese. Continue stirring until the cheese melts completely and the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.
Season: Season the sauce with salt, pepper, and nutmeg (if using). Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
Serve: Remove the sauce from the heat. Serve immediately over freshly cooked pasta like fettuccine, or use it as a sauce for chicken or vegetables.
Garnish: Garnish with fresh parsley or additional Parmesan if desired.
Serving Suggestions:
- Pair this sauce with fettuccine to make the classic Fettuccine Alfredo.
- Add cooked chicken, shrimp, or broccoli for a heartier dish.
- Serve over grilled chicken or as a dipping sauce for breadsticks.
